Why your company must have a blog

A weblog, or blog for short, seems synonymous with the internet age, and yet so many companies are missing a trick by neglecting a great inbound marketing tool.

This article aims to run through the key areas a blog can help your company as well as an overview of what to aim for when you take the plunge.

Firstly, it is worth considering why people are on the internet in the first place. Almost all journeys start on a users favourite search engine, where they will type in a query. More often than not, they will have a problem that needs solving, and the results that are returned are those the search engine feels are most pertinent to their problem.

So the key here is understanding the problems that your business or product can solve. Using a blog to push products will only serve to alienate people. However, providing value to a user and helping them understand that your product will solve the problem they face will endear your service to them and will increase your chance of conversion.

It’s clear then that you have to give a little in order to get, and providing value is the key here. Writing something that people will want to read, and from which they can increase their understand, is more likely to be shared across social media, increasing your inbound marketing efforts.

Further to this, search engines like it: fresher content will help your website climb the organic search results, and providing valuable content will increase your click-through-rate which will in turn drive you higher. The easiest way to achieve this is to add a blog to your site.

Once you’ve taken the step of adding a blog to your site, you might be daunted at the prospect of having to fill it with words. It’s important not to worry at this stage, writing something is better than nothing, and if that is every month then so be it, it is still fresh content. If you can write every week, better, and every day, better still, though for many companies this just isn’t feasible.

However it is worth noting that you should focus on quality over quantity. Creating a lot of superfluous content that is not likely to be read or shared is a waste of your time. Focussing on delivering value through quality content less often is likely to deliver the best results.

Hopefully this gives you an idea of why it is worth adding a blog to your website, and the benefits it can bring to your company.
